This week, Twitter, which tolerates all sorts of parody accounts that mock President Trump, reportedly permanently suspended one lone account that brilliantly parodied former Congressman Beto O’Rourke’s series of blogs that detail his personal journeys.

The Twitter account, apparently run by a woman who has a gift for imitating O’Rourke’s navel-gazing as displayed on Instagram, was notified by Twitter that it had been permanently suspended with a note reading, “Hello. It has come to our attention that your Twitter account is in violation of the Twitter Rules, specifically the policy on impersonation. Impersonation is pretending to be another entity in order to deceive, and is strictly prohibited. The account has been suspended and will not be restored.”

As the Twitter account named Comfortably Smug reported, the woman who ran the Beto’sBlog account told him, “They let death threats stay up from blue check marks and suspend me permanently for obvious parody about a candidate.”

Interestingly, you can be a Hollywood producer and fantasize about throwing the Covington Catholic High School kids into a woodchipper and still not even be temporarily suspended by Twitter.

Or you can fantasize about locking those same kids into their school and then burning it to the ground and still not be permanently suspended by Twitter:

Or you can fantasize about killing a conservative pundit and still not be permanently suspended from Twitter.

Or you can call Jews “termites,” and still not be suspended from Twitter despite the fact that only three weeks before the “termites” remark Twitter announced that “non-targeted dehumanizing speech” would be banned from the platform — and explained that an example of such speech would be, “Statements along the lines of ‘All members of protected group X are dogs or rats or whatever.’”
